The Internet and political circles in Ukraine continue to comment on the scandalous statement of Victoria Spartz, a member of the US House of Representatives from the Republican Party and the first ethnic Ukrainian woman in Congress in history, who stated that in her opinion, Ukrainians must come to terms with the transfer of their territories to Russia.
Oleksandr Merezhko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's Committee on Foreign Policy, shared his opinion on Ms. Spartz's statements with Apostrophe.
"I met with her once in Kyiv in the Verkhovna Rada, when she was part of the American delegation, and once in Washington. We had a conversation. The problem, in my opinion, is not only in her completely unacceptable statements. The thing is that she is focusing her statements on Trump. I do not exclude that she is saying either what Trump thinks, or what is currently included in the general political line that Trump is leading. This is the greatest danger," the MP believes.
According to Merezhko, Victoria Spartz once bet on Trump as a politician.
"And now she is not saying what she really thinks, but what strengthens her political positions and gives her better chances of re-election. But this is my subjective and, perhaps, erroneous opinion," the parliamentarian emphasized.
"I have a question: how much does Trump listen to her? Doesn't he consider her a kind of "expert" on Ukrainian issues? That would be dangerous. Maybe she positions herself among Trumpists as an expert on Ukraine," Merezhko noted.
"Should we continue the dialogue with her? It's hard to say. That should be decided by our leadership," he added.
As Apostrophe reported, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry commented on Spartz's scandalous statement : "Unlike Victoria, all of our land has always been and will remain Ukrainian."
