US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink has resigned as political differences with President Donald Trump's administration have grown.
This is reported by the Financial Times , citing people familiar with her decision.
The publication indicates that the ambassador was under significant pressure from senior officials in the Trump administration. Allegedly, politicians questioned her willingness to support the White House's new strategy towards Ukraine.
"Ambassador Brink is resigning. She was ambassador there for three years – that's a long time in a combat zone," said US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.
At the same time, Western diplomats in Kyiv have characterized Brink as an important defender of Ukraine both publicly and privately since the first weeks of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. One of them described her as a "strong personality" and "serious diplomat," adding that pressure from both the Trump and Zelensky administrations had "negatively affected her."
It is worth noting that Trump's policy differs significantly from the course of the previous Biden administration, which provided Ukraine with billions of dollars in military and financial assistance and imposed sanctions against Russia.
Instead, Ukrainian officials considered the ambassador to be too critical of them, especially regarding the country's efforts to fight corruption.
In addition, officials emphasized Brink's noticeable changes in her messages recently, which, in their opinion, have become closer to Trump's position and increasingly critical of Ukraine.
"A Financial Times analysis of Brink's posts on social media X revealed significant changes in her rhetoric since Trump's inauguration on January 20. In the 75 days before the new president took office, she was critical of Russia and the war in Ukraine 53 times, while in the 75 days after that, she published only five posts mentioning Russia, none of which blamed it for the military actions," the publication added.
The fact that United States Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink decided to leave her post early became known on April 10. It was noted that her decision was due to a combination of personal and political problems.
