Kremlin names conditions for "immediate" end to war in Ukraine

The Kremlin has announced conditions under which a guaranteed immediate end to the war in Ukraine is possible.

This was reported by Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, to the French publication "Le Point".

According to him, the war would end immediately if Ukraine agreed to establish control over the four partially occupied regions.

"If Ukraine were to withdraw its troops from these four regions, yes. All four regions are enshrined in our Constitution as an integral part of Russia," said a representative of the Russian dictator.

At the same time, Peskov called the Ukrainian territories "occupied by the current Kiev regime." He explained why he used this phrase.

"As a result of the referendums, these territories became part of the administrative borders of the Russian Federation. In our opinion, this is a situation both de jure and de facto," he said.

As for Volodymyr Zelensky's resignation, Russia does not insist on this in the peace agreement. However, if it were signed now, Ukraine could later legally challenge it due to illegitimacy "in connection with martial law and certain articles of the Constitution."

In response to the statement about the similarity of the positions of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, he replied that what they have in common is that "they both understand the absurdity of refusing dialogue."

He also said that an upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin would be productive, as both "want results." Preparations for it are ongoing.

As Apostrophe reported, on April 23, negotiations between representatives of Western governments on a peaceful settlement were held in London.

We also wrote that the US president rejected the demand that the Ukrainian authorities recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea as part of the peace settlement plan, since it lost it a long time ago .

Zelenskyy previously stated that Ukraine does not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea . Any proposals to recognize the peninsula as Russian territory will be rejected.
