Water supply from the mainland Ukraine to the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, which is currently occupied by the Russian Federation and where the lack of water has caused a real disaster, will be renewed only after the complete de-occupation of the peninsula. In the meantime, a dam that stops Dnipro water will be strengthened.
This was reported by the press service of the Representative Office of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea on the official Facebook page.
The report says that Anton Korinevich, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, has visited the North Crimean Canal Administration in the city of Tavriisk, where he shared a meeting with Sergei Shevchenko, the head of the Administration. The issues were discussed regarding the strengthening of the structures that stop Dnipro water from entering the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula.
"Issues important for the functioning of the canal were discussed, in particular, the need to complete the dam on 107 kilometers of the canal, which, on the one hand, eliminates the ingress of water into the temporarily occupied Crimea, and on the other - will significantly improve land reclamation measures in the southern regions of Kherson area," the president noted.
Anton Korinevych named the only possible option to restore the water supply to the peninsula.
"The position of the Representative Office and the Canal Administration is unambiguous - no water in the Crimea before de-occupation," he stressed.
As was earlier reported by "Apostrophe", groundwater cannot be pumped in the Russia-occupied Crimea due to a shortage of pumps.
