Syrsky: The Chernobyl accident led to the collapse of the USSR. Now the Russian Federation is creating another catastrophe

On the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl Disaster, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Chernobyl was the catalyst for the collapse of the USSR. Now, the Russians have put the world on the brink of nuclear threat.

He wrote about this in Telegram.

Syrsky recalled that today marks the 39th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident:

"Economic losses reached over $180 billion. At least 2.2 million Ukrainians were affected and 255,000 liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. This catastrophe opened people's eyes to the scale of the system's lies. After all, on May 1, 1986, in Kyiv, 100 kilometers from the explosion, the authorities not only did not cancel, but brought thousands of adult citizens and children to a demonstration."

The Commander-in-Chief emphasizes that the same lies from the Russian occupiers continue to be told to this day:

"Now the Russians have once again put the world on the brink of nuclear threat by seizing the Zaporizhzhia NPP and shelling other nuclear power plants. They are again committing man-made and economic disasters, in particular, as during the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station."

However, in the end, Chernobyl, according to Oleksandr Syrsky, became the catalyst for the collapse of this empire:

"Those who dream of bringing back the "Soviet empire" still operate according to the same cynical patterns - total deception and devaluation of human life. But in the end, Chernobyl became the catalyst for the collapse of this empire."
