Poland faced "many attempts" to breach the border with Belarus overnight but now has 15,000 troops to repel them, the defense minister has said. Several thousand migrants have become stranded at the border, at the center of an escalating international row.
Poland and Belarus have accused each other of violence towards migrants camped near the fence. Those claims are difficult to verify as journalists have been barred from the area because of a local Polish state of emergency.
However, the defense ministry in Warsaw tweeted a video alleging that a Belarusian soldier fired a shot to intimidate the migrants camped near the fence.
One can notice clearly the sounds of gunshots on the footage. According to the video, the migrants are scared of the situation.
Interestingly, the day before, the Belarusian side accused Poland of opening fire to calm down the migrants camping at the border. The Polish authorities officially denied such accusations.
Earlier, “Apostrophe” reported that two large groups of migrants who have been on the Polish-Belarusian border since November 8 managed to breach the border.
