Ukrainian Hryhoriy Sinchenko received 26 years on 47 charges, although he pleaded guilty to only one - escape from custody.
This is reported by the Russian publication "Mediazona".
The principled political science student preferred to drop out of college in Simferopol rather than continue his studies in annexed Crimea. The publication specifies that he was arrested three times in Donetsk and eventually sent to a colony for 26 years, having been found guilty of dozens of charges. Although he himself admitted only one.
It is known that Sinchenko's first detention occurred in 2016 after a series of explosions in tobacco kiosks in the self-proclaimed so-called "DPR". He was 25 years old at the time. The Ukrainian was accused of organizing these explosions and sent to the Donetsk pre-trial detention center, where, according to his mother, he was brutally abused: beaten until unconscious and tortured with electric shocks.
"They beat him so much that his lung ruptured, and he almost died in the pre-trial detention center," the mother explained.
After the prisoner exchange, Sinchenko ended up in Ukraine, but eventually returned to Donetsk. He was re-arrested, but was charged with more serious charges, totaling 47. He is accused, among others, of espionage, participation in a terrorist organization, attempt on the life of a security officer, escape, and preparation of an assassination attempt on a court employee. However, he himself pleaded guilty to only one charge - escape from custody.
His mother emphasizes that her son only wanted to draw attention to the torture he endured.
