The largest parade will be held in Moscow until May 9. Judging by the video from the rehearsals, it will be the loudest since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Russian media writes about this.
At least 184 pieces of equipment, 12 drones, and 15 aircraft will take part in the parade. This is a record since the beginning of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. There was more equipment at the parade only in 2021.
Compared to the anniversary parades of 2020 and 2015, this one will be more modest. For the 75th anniversary, 234 pieces of equipment were brought to Red Square, and 75 helicopters and airplanes were launched. For the 70th anniversary, 194 pieces of equipment and 143 aircraft took part in the parade.
This year, the parade is expected to feature a full complement of modern tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. 30 T-72B3M, T-80BVM and T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks took part in the rehearsal (video #1). On May 9, 55 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles will also appear on Red Square, including the BMP-2M with the Berezhok module, the BMP-3, the Kurganets-25 BMP (pictured) and the Boomerang. This is one tank and one motorized rifle battalion, the Conflict Intelligence Team analyst estimated the number of vehicles.
"Such an amount of armored vehicles did not appear on Red Square even in the pre-war year of 2021. And in 2024 and 2023, only one rare T-34 tank participated in the parade at all. The newest T-14 "Armata" tank and the T-15 infantry fighting vehicle on the Armata platform were not present at the rehearsal, although before the war they regularly participated in parades," Rosmedia writes.
In addition, for the first time in Moscow, at least four types of land vehicles will be shown. However, this parade will not surpass 2020 in terms of the number of new products - then the Ministry of Defense showed 24 new vehicles at once. For the first time, the BMP-1AM "Basurmanin" and the ZA-SpN "Titan" armored vehicle will drive along the cobblestones. These are modifications of the Soviet BMP-1 and the Russian armored vehicle "Typhoon".
Two self-propelled artillery systems (SAU) "Malva" and "Giatsint-K" (video #2) will also be taken to Red Square. As military analyst Yan explained to the Agency, these are guns from the Soviet tracked SAU "Msta-S" and "Giatsint-S", which were mounted on a wheelbase.
Drones will also be a novelty in the parades. “Gerani” (Iranian Shahed 136), “Lancets”, “Eagles” and “Harpies” will be transported on trucks.
In total, three modifications of the Typhoon armored vehicle will be shown at the parade: nine Titans, six Linz ambulances and six Phoenixes (both new for 2024). 12 Tiger-Ms and six VPK-Urals also appeared at the rehearsal.
At the same time, during the rehearsal over Moscow, the aerobatic teams "Russian Knights" on Su-30SM and "Strizhi" on MiG-29, as well as six Su-25 attack aircraft, appeared.
"The new parade may indicate that the Russian army is still experiencing a shortage of equipment due to the war in Ukraine. The CIT analyst explained the absence of short-range air defense systems at the parade by saying that they are needed at the front and to protect Moscow from UAVs. The installations of the long-range S-400 system that will be shown can be removed from posts in the Moscow region for a short time," experts believe.
Instead, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced that on May 9, the Russian army will march through Red Square in Moscow, the "achievements" of which include the execution of civilians, mass graves, rape, looting, detention of civilian hostages, torture and execution of prisoners of war, use of indiscriminate weapons, and strikes on densely populated residential areas, energy, and civilian infrastructure.
