On Monday, September 13, Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko met with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde. The meeting took place as part of her first working visit to Ukraine.
This was reported on the official website of the Cabinet of Ministers.
There were five important issues on the agenda:
- the "Second Economic Recovery Development Policy Loan",
- cooperation with the International Monetary Fund,
- results of the joint projects,
- Ukraine's transition to green energy
- the main directions of further cooperation between the World Bank and Ukraine.
Marchenko has noted that the cooperation with the World Bank facilitated Ukraine’s ability to provide the necessary number of coronavirus vaccines.
According to Bjørde, Ukraine has shown significant progress in economic recovery during the pandemic. In addition, she stressed the World Bank's support for reforming the pension system in Ukraine and other areas will be necessary for further development.
The parties discussed the conditions for obtaining Second Economic Recovery Development Policy Loan. Preliminary, the World Bank is going to bring up this issue at the meeting of the Board of Directors in December.
In addition, Marchenko noted that Ukraine expects the IMF mission next week.
The parties also identified the main areas of cooperation in the near future as well as highlighted its key priorities.
