All victims of the Russian military aggression can now apply for compensation for the damage caused.
Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Iryna Mudra told about this in an interview with Apostrophe.
According to her, Ukraine and its partners have created a special international mechanism to receive reparations from Russia for its criminal actions against our country and citizens. As part of this mechanism, the International Register of Damages, located in The Hague, has been launched.
"On April 2, at the international conference "Restoring Justice for Ukraine", it was announced that the Register would start accepting applications. The applications will be accepted through the Diia portal, as the International Register of Losses is a digital platform. Anyone can use a smartphone or computer to register their losses from the war," said Iryna Mudra. - "If a person is unable to use Diia for one reason or another, he or she will be able to get help from authorized institutions - Administrative Service Centers (ASCs), notaries, free legal aid centers, state registrars, local administrations, etc. But we will also conduct public information campaigns on this issue."
According to her, the categories of damages have already been approved by the Registry Council, 44 in total, and this list is the largest for individuals. In particular, it includes the following types of damage:
- material damage to movable and immovable property;
- loss of access to education and healthcare;
- losses from forced relocation, both within Ukraine and abroad;
- deportation from the occupied territories;
- loss of a loved one;
- damage to human life and health, personal integrity (bodily harm, torture, sexual violence, etc.)
- forced deprivation of liberty;
- forced labor.
Private businesses can claim compensation for the destruction of production facilities and equipment, for lost profits as a result of business interruption, etc. Damages to the state include the destruction of infrastructure, destruction or stealing of cultural and historical property, environmental damage, etc. The state's expenditures on humanitarian projects related to the war will also be submitted for compensation.
