It became known that Ukraine has broken the agreement with Bulgaria regarding nuclear power plant reactors

Bulgaria will not sell two nuclear power plant reactors to Ukraine. The deal on the reactors has collapsed.

This was reported by Forbes, citing Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov.

It is noted that among the main reasons is Sofia's decision to focus on the development of nuclear energy within the country, especially "in the context of rising electricity prices around the world."

At the same time, the collapse of this agreement jeopardizes the construction of two new units of the Belene NPP in Bulgaria. After all, the project was funded by the sale of these reactors to Ukraine.

As is known, in February 2025, the Verkhovna Rada supported the purchase of equipment in Bulgaria , and in March, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the corresponding law. The cost of the deal was estimated at 600 million euros. This step provided for the purchase of equipment in Bulgaria and the unblocking of construction work in Netishyn. Previous attempts to adopt a similar law failed.

"Apostrophe" also wrote that the project of Ukraine's purchase of Russian nuclear reactors from Bulgaria for two power units of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant remains on paper due to corruption. In particular, People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that this is a story about how "the hand of our corrupt people sometimes helps to stop their own schemes."
