A part of the monument symbolizing the friendship between Ukraine and Russia was demolished in Kyiv, a monument in honor of the Pereyaslav Rada under the former Peoplesʼ Friendship Arch.

Dismantling of the monument in honor of the Pereyaslav Rada began on Tuesday morning, April 30. Since the construction is massive and heavy, it will not be possible to remove it in one day - dismantling may take several days, the Kyiv City State Administration notes.
"Utility workers say that the process of total dismantling can take up to three days, but they will try to do it faster," the correspondent emphasized.
The monument consists of about 20 elements weighing about 6,000-7,000 kg. Experts have previously examined the construction to preserve its integrity during dismantling and not to damage it. After dismantling, the monument will be stored at the Antonov State Aviation Museum of Ukraine.
Recall that as a result of the Russian Federation's large-scale aggression against Ukraine, on April 26, 2022, a Soviet monument located under the Arch known as the Peoplesʼ Friendship Arch was dismantled in Kyiv. It was also planned to dismantle a granite stele with a complex composition dedicated to the Pereyaslav Rada, but it was decided to do so later.
Also, on May 14, 2022, the Kyiv City Council decided to rename the Arch itself.
It now has the official name Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People. At the same time, Kyiv City Council members approved a list of more than 40 monuments and memorial signs that were planned to be removed from the streets and buildings of the capital and transferred to the Museum of Totalitarianism.
