In Kyiv, on the night of May 1 to 2, the old name "People's Friendship" was removed from the walls of the Zvirynetska subway station and two of the four necessary sets of letters for the new name were installed.
This was reported by the Press Service of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).
One set of letters for the Zvirynetska station has 13 symbols, and the weight of one letter is from 5 to 6 kg. In total, 52 symbols have been made for this station, which can be installed only at night, when there is no train traffic and no voltage on the contact rail. The rest of the signs will be installed one of the following nights.
The author of the fonts for this station was Bohdan Hdal, a font designer and specialist at the Kyiv City Center for Folk Art and Cultural Studies. When creating the new inscription, the designer was guided by the fact that Zvirynets is a historical area known since the times of Kyivan Rus' between Pechersk, Vydubychi, Telychka, and Chorna Hora. Therefore, the font should be appropriate. The historical fonts were made by hand at the Foundry Dvir workshop, which also created the letters for the Square of Ukrainian Heroes, Pochayna, Vasylkivska, and Holosiivska stations. It was this workshop that won the bidding on the Prozorro public procurement platform.
As you know, in early April, the new letters were installed at the Ukrainian Heroes Square subway station. Thus, the work on renaming the two subway stations is now complete.
