US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during the latter's visit to Washington on December 10. It was Lavrov's first visit since May 2017.
When discussing the Normandy summit results, Secretary Pompeo stressed that the US recognizes Crimea as part of Ukraine.
“I reiterated to Foreign Minister Lavrov that Crimea belongs to Ukraine and that the resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine begins with adherence to commitments made under the Minsk agreements,” Pompeo told the reporters.
According to the White House, Donald Trump warned Russia against interference in American elections.
Minister Lavrov, however, didn't recall this conversation at a solo press conference in the evening.
"You know, we haven't even actually discussed elections," he stated at the event.
Russia's top diplomat has also highlighted that "all speculations about [Russia's] alleged interference in domestic processes in the United States are baseless."
