Bernie Sanders is projected to narrowly win in New Hampshire

With 90% of the precincts reporting, Bernie Sanders is projected to narrowly win in New Hampshire. Pete Buttigieg – the 38-year-old former mayor of South Bend, Indiana – trails with a close second place. The two very different politicians have established their leadership in both Iowa and New Hampshire, setting the path for a successful race.

Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota follows the frontrunners, securing her rather unexpected position in the New Hampshire top three.

Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, are not meeting the threshold for pledged delegates in the New Hampshire Democratic primary, which poses a serious challenge for their campaigns.

However, despite the fact that no candidate has won a nomination without coming in the top 2 in New Hampshire or Iowa since 1972, the states counting hundreds of delegates are still lying ahead. While historically highly important, New Hampshire has a total of 24 pledged delegates – compared to, for instance, Florida’s 219 or New York’s 274.

Former Vice President Biden has left the state for South Carolina, where he’s been leading in the polls, before New Hampshire’s results came in.

Next up is the Nevada caucus on Feb. 22 and South Carolina primary on Feb. 29.
