U.S. President Donald Trump said he would like to see Russia and Ukraine “come together” and “get along”. The statement came mere days after Ukraine had marked the sixth anniversary of Maidan’s bloodiest three days.
“Well, I'd like to see them come together. I think if they came together in the sense that they got along with each other, that would be a great thing,” President Trump told reporters on Sunday, February 23, before departing for his visit to India.
“It would be a great thing for the world…. If Ukraine and Russia could work out some agreement where they get along, to me that would be very good,” he continued.
The armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine enters its seventh year in 2020, with more than 13,000 people dead and another 1.5 million internally displaced.
Russia denies its direct involvement in the aggression, insisting the Donbas conflict is a civil war.
