The international community must draw "clear red lines" with Russia, French President Emmanuel Macron said, including implementing sanctions after any "unacceptable behavior" by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as was reported by CBS.
"This is the only way to be credible. I think that sanctions are not sufficient in itself, in themselves, but sanctions are part of the package. I do prefer constructive dialogue, but to have a constructive and efficient dialogue, you need credibility," Macron said.
According to Macron, the international community takes a rather “naive approach” towards Russia. The situation in Ukraine, which erupted 7 years ago and is escalating increasingly now, was not a result of a “failure of diplomacy” but rather a “failure of our collective credibility vis-à-vis Russia”.
Macron is sure that imposing sanctions after any "unacceptable behavior" of Russian President Vladimir Putin is logical. However, it is not enough and such inaction emboldened Mr. Putin.
