In case of aggravation of the situation near the borders of Ukraine, where Russia is pulling its troops, the head of the European People's Party (EPP) in Germany, Manfred Weber called for the stop of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
In an interview with Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland editorial association, he stressedthat the European Union should give Moscow an "unequivocal signal".
"If the situation in eastern Ukraine worsens, Nord Stream 2 can no longer be adhered to" Weber said.In addition, he claimed that Russia was involved in cyberattacks and the disinformation campaign, which is considered a real threat to the EU and the West.
In turn, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, Deputy Chairman of the Free Democratic Party faction in the Bundestag, expressed the opinion that Moscow might be creating conditions for military intervention in the situation in the Donbas. If this happens, he considers it necessary to expand sanctions against Russia.
"Then the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project should be stopped immediately, it is quite obvious," the politician said.
