Moscow reacted cynically to Zelensky's invitation for Putin to meet in the Donbas

On April 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet in the Donbas. The Russian side has already responded to the invitation, saying that the proposition of the Ukrainian leader was "unrealistic and meaningless PR".

An akin point of view was expressed by Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Presidium of the Council on Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation, as was reported by RIA Novosti.

"In response, it is possible to offer Zelensky to meet somewhere in Crimea. For example, in Sevastopol," he said.

Bezpalko believes that Zelensky allegedly wants to stand out with such a statement, at the same time understanding that there will never be such a meeting. He also reproached the Ukrainian leader and said he never visited the temporarily occupied by militants territory.

A similar statement was made by Vladimir Jabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, according toTASS.

According to Jabarov, "this is a statement made by a good actor." He also called it "an attempt to make a statement before Putin's address to the Federal Assembly".

It is worth noting that Russia actively supports the militants in the Donbas yet denies its involvement.
