Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine developed an address to the U.S. Senate regarding Nord Stream 2

On Friday, May 21, People's Deputies of Ukraine adopted a Resolution on the Address of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Congress of the United States of America of the 117th Convocation on Intensifying Efforts to Strengthen Energy Security of Ukraine and Europe through General Sanctions on the Nord Stream-2 Gas Pipeline.

This was announced by the press service of the parliament.

The Resolution expresses concern that the Report of the US Congress submitted by the US State Department and the proposed additional sanctions do not provide for measures against the key company of the Nord Stream-2 participant - Nord Stream AG.

The Verkhovna Rada appealed to the U.S. Congress to prevent the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which poses a threat to Ukraine's energy security. The draft resolution was supported by 292 PMs.

In particular, 217 MPs of the Servant of the People faction, 23 MPs of European Solidarity, 17 Holos MPs, 12 MPs of the Dovira faction, 10 of Batkivshchyna and 7 For the Future MPs voted in support of the Resolution. Opposition Platform - For Life deputies didn't vote.

Dmitry Razumkov, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, was an initiator of the Resolution No. 5520.

The document calls on the U.S. to use all possible legal tools to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

As noted in the explanatory note to the document, the gas pipeline is one of Russia's instruments of the hybrid war against Ukraine. At the same time, the goal of Nord Stream 2 is to divide Europe, strengthen the EU's dependence on Russian gas supplies and create leverage of putting pressure on Ukraine and other European states.
