The Russian authorities face serious sanctions. This was said by U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in an interview with CBS NEWS.
Ms. Harris confirmed to the journalist that there are one hundred thousand Russian military personnel on the Ukrainian-Russian border. At the same time, she stressed that the United States is negotiating directly with Russia in order to prevent escalation in Europe.
“Well, we are having direct conversations with Russia. The president, as you know, met recently virtually with Putin, and we are very clear that- that Russia should not invade the sovereignty of Ukraine, that we must stand up and we are standing up for its territorial integrity. We are working with our allies in that regard, and we've been very clear that we are prepared to issue sanctions like you've not seen before,” Vice President Harris has stated.
At the same time, the Vice-President did not voice details: what nature will the restrictive measures be and whether they will directly concern Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“I'm not going to talk about specific sanctions, but we are making that clear to him, and we are in direct conversations. And we are also working very closely with our allies. And again, let's use this issue as an example of the importance of the strength of those relationships,” she said.
And on the journalist's remark that sanctions had been imposed before, but this did not prevent the Russian Federation from concentrating its military troops on Ukrainian border once again, Kamala Harris stressed that there had never been such a sanctions like they are talking about now.
“And I'll repeat that the type of sanctions that we're talking about are sanctions that we've not done before,” she stressed.
