The German Armed Forces are increasing their military presence in Lithuania by 350 soldiers, and the UK will send the same number of troops to Poland.
This is reported by Apostrophe with reference to the German newspaper Taglicher Anzeiger and the international news agency Euronews.
"This way, we are increasing our contribution to the forces on the eastern flank of NATO and send a clear signal of determination to our allies," said German Federal Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht.
Her message to the Allies was: "you can rely on us," adding that their troops would be sent to Lithuania in the next few days.
Currently, about 500 German soldiers are deployed in Lithuania as a part of the so-called advanced presence of the Western Military Alliance.
"We will send another 350 British troops to Poland as a bilateral deployment to show that we can work together and send a strong signal that the UK and Poland are standing side by side," British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said on Monday, February 7.
In 2021, the UK sent a hundred servicemen to Poland in order to contribute to the resolution of the migrant crisis on the border with Belarus.
Earlier, Apostrophe reported that Germany sent Ukraine an official letter of intent to transfer 5,000 protective helmets for the military of Ukraine.
