EU readies "Plan B" for Ukraine to bypass Orban's veto

In order to bypass Hungary's veto, the EU is preparing an alternative aid scheme for Ukraine for €20bn, that would not require unanimous approval by all EU member states.

This was reported by the Financial Times.

According to information, the scheme means that individual EU countries gave financial guarantees, under which the EU will reserve for Ukraine in the financial markets € 20 billion in the form of loans.

We will remind, the European Union has expressed its intention to include in its budget plan for the next four years financial support for Ukraine in the amount of €50 billion. However, the leader of Hungary, Viktor Orban, who is in conflict with both Ukraine and Brussels, blocked this decision during the EU Summit in December. Currently, it is planned to resume discussion of this issue at an unscheduled Summit, which is planned on February 1.

As we reported earlier, Hungary is going to be deprived of the right to vote.
