House Speaker Johnson announced vote on Israel support package: will it include aid to Ukraine?

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson has announced a vote for military aid to Israel, but did not specify whether the bill would also include aid to Ukraine.

Johnson said this on Fox News.

"We're going to try again this week, and the details of that package are being put together right now. We're looking at the options, and all these supplemental issues," he said.

Answering the question about assistance to Ukraine, he said: "We'll send our package, we'll put something together and send it to the Senate." However, Johnson did not specify whether the package would be combined with aid to Israel and whether it would be voted on this week.

As a reminder, Mike Johnson is trying to unite the Republican majority in the House of Representatives and avoid the threat of resignation from the post of Speaker. A few months ago, in October 2023, such a resignation effectively ended the political career of his predecessor, Kevin McCarthy.

Earlier, Apostrophe reported that the US Congress may start collecting signatures to put the bill on assistance to Ukraine to a vote in the House of Representatives, bypassing Speaker Mike Johnson.
