US President Joe Biden has approved the transfer of another Patriot missile system to Ukraine.
The New York Times reports this, citing senior presidential administration officials and high-ranking military officials.
Biden's decision was reportedly made last week, after a series of high-level meetings and internal debates on how to meet Ukraine's urgent needs for bolstered air defense without jeopardizing US combat readiness.
According to the publication, the new Patriot system will be transferred to Ukraine from Poland in the next few days.
Representatives of the US presidential administration expressed hope that the transfer of the second US Patriot system would encourage allies to do the same.
The publication also notes that during the visit of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and General Brown to Belgium, air defense will be a central topic of discussion.
The Patriot is the most expensive single weapon system the United States has ever supplied to Ukraine, with a total cost of about $1.1 billion: $400 million for the system and $690 million for the missiles.
Earlier, Apostrophe reported that Ukraine had started repairing armored vehicles together with Rheinmetall.
