The biggest problem with the American peace proposal is the lifting of sanctions, which would indicate the absence of punishment for the aggressor.
This is written by Ukrainian financier and blogger Serhiy Fursa.
Regarding this, Fursa says, referring to the occupied Crimea, about which Trump recently spoke:
"What's the biggest problem with the American peace proposal? It's not even a question of the legal recognition of Crimea as Russian territory by the Americans themselves. It's unpleasant. Disgusting. But it's not the first time Trump has done something like this. And it's more of a symbolic step."
Explains why he considers the knowledge of all sanctions to be the key problem:
"Those that, according to the Russians, do not work, but whose removal they are persistently bargaining for, kissing the US president's ass. Because it turns out that there is no punishment for the aggressor. Putin seized part of the territory of Ukraine. Then he stopped further aggression. For which he already has no strength. And he got away without punishment. Without returning the stolen goods."
According to him, it's not just about justice:
"Although it looks a bit unfair. It's about a signal. That you can do whatever you want. And you won't get anything for it. This directly stimulates both Putin and other aggressors around the world to start wars. And it opens such a Pandora's box that the world won't recognize itself."
Fursa decided to simulate the following situation:
"Putin will return to his oligarchs and say. Look. As I said. We won. Not Ukraine. We defeated the USA. We restored greatness. And we are returning to life as before. Why, after such a victory, shouldn't he try again? In a year? In three? In five. Should he try, and not Putin? Is this hidden desire of Trump to seize and annex something there paving the way to dreams, although it looks too difficult for the US president."
In addition, he emphasizes that this also concerns the issue of security for Ukraine:
"And, of course, this is also a security issue for Ukraine. A stagnant, weak Russia is one of the best guarantees of security. Of course, in addition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there is also the understanding, which any Ukrainian politician should always have now, that in order to avoid war again, we must always be ready for it. But Russia, without sanctions, will be able to recover much faster. And again, think, why not..."
In view of this, Fursa believes it is critically important, both for Ukraine and for the EU, to maintain sanctions against Russia, "which should be tied not to a ceasefire, but to the presence of Russian soldiers on the legal territory of Ukraine."
We remind you that previously proposals were made public regarding ending Russia's war in Ukraine , which US special envoy Steve Witkoff presented to European officials during talks in the French capital on April 17.
Ukrainian businessman, volunteer, founder and leader of the volunteer group "People's Rear" Georgy Tuka, commenting on the peace agreements for Ukraine from the US and the EU, published the day before, emphasized the fundamental difference between these documents.
