The scandal around PrivatBank: the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine took up the case against Poroshenko

The Prosecutor General's office began pre-trial investigation on possible pressure of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on judges in the case of PrivatBank.

This is stated in the message of the District administrative Court of Kyiv.

It is reported that as a result of consideration of the application of judges Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine entered the information to the UNIFIED REGISTER OF PRE-JUDICIAL INVESTIGATIONS and began investigation of possible intervention in activity of judges in the case of PrivatBank.

In particular, we are talking about the signs of a criminal offense under part 2 of Article 376 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

To recap, in April the judges of the District Administrative Court of Kyiv demanded to start the procedure of impeachment against the current President Petro Poroshenko, to initiate cases against the Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko and the Head of the NBU Yakiv Smoliy. In their statement, the judges said that the country's officials criticized the decision to recognize the illegal nationalization of PrivatBank which threatened the independence of the judiciary.

According to "Apostrophe", on April 18, the District Administrative Court of Kyiv declared nationalization of PrivatBank in December of 2016 to be illegal.

On the same day Petro Poroshenko appealed to the Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General to open criminal cases against the judges of the District Administrative Court of Kyiv, which recognized the nationalization of PrivatBank to be illegal.
