Next year's events in Ukraine will be influenced by mobilization, the need for more weapons, and possible problems with defense financing.
This is the opinion of a military expert, Director of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies Valentyn Badrak on the air of "Apostrophe" TV.
According to the expert, in 2024 Ukraine will have to switch to strategic defense along the entire front line, so the issue of mobilization will become urgent.
"We are very hampered by loud expectations, that the authorities themselves fueled, telling: "in summer 2023 we'll drink coffee in the Crimea". And then the issue of mobilization became acute," he said.
According to Badrak, at this point it is necessary to switch to the production of their own weapons, because there is already a shortage of certain types of shells. The enemy conduct a more active counter-battery warfare, using ballistic missiles, which they receive from the DPRK and China.
As an expert said, the enemy has the opportunity to constantly increase the production of its own weapons, even new types. Russians are actively transferring their economy to the military.
Valentyn Badrak believes that the situation with defense financing can also be difficult.
"The EU was ready to allocate €50bn, but Hungary blocked the aid package. Now EU countries are ready to allocate only €20 billion in a separate package when EU countries sign a separate agreement on Ukraine. France, Germany, the Netherlands, Britain and other states are trying to compensate for the shortage of allocations from the United States, but still the situation remains difficult," - summarized the expert.
