GRU sent a member of the "Wagner" group to Ukraine to prepare powerful strikes on Kyiv: detention of a saboteur, photo

A member of the "Wagner" group, whom Russian military intelligence (GRU) sent to prepare strikes intended to blackout Kyiv, has been detained in Ukraine.

This is reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).

The Security Service says that the militant was tasked to move from Belarus to Rivne Region to adjust Russian air attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The SSU uncovered the aggressor’s plans when the agent was still in Belarus. The suspect was detained "red-handed": he was trying to attach several GPS trackers to the power lines that supply Kyiv Region. Using the signals of the "beacons", the occupants wanted to adjust the targeted strike on power facilities, in particular with the use of Shahed kamikaze drones.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a citizen of Belarus, who was a member of the LNR/DNR terrorist groups from 2014 to 2017 and took part in hostilities against the ATO forces in eastern Ukraine.

At the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, the militant joined the Russian private military company "Wagner", where he stormed Bakhmut and nearby villages. Later, he returned to Belarus, where he received a task from his Russian military intelligence supervisor to prepare sabotage on the border territory of Ukraine.

The SSU officers plan to serve the detainee a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Article 113 (sabotage) and Part 1 of Article 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization).
