About 40,000 Russian troops are concentrated on the border with Kharkiv Region, while only 4-5 thousand of them took part in the assault.
Oleksiy Hetman, a Reserve Major of the National Guard of Ukraine, said this on the air of Apostrophe TV.
According to him, this means that only about 10% of the enemy's forces were involved.
"These 4-5 thousand were used to create bridgeheads in the north-east of the region. Then occupiers will use these footholds to strengthen and ensure the passage of larger forces. The footholds can also be used to try to put pressure on Kharkiv city," said Oleksiy Hetman.
At the same time, he suggested that perhaps this 4-5 thousand would remain in position, and the rest of the forces from the mentioned 40,000-strong grouping could be redeployed towards Sumy Region.
"The Russians have the ability to quickly move large groups of troops along the border here using railway logistics. Accordingly, the Russians now have several options, including the fact that they will use these footholds and groupings of their forces on the border with Ukraine to distract the Ukrainian Defence Forces from other areas," the NGU Reserve Major concluded.
Earlier, Apostrophe wrote that Russian offensive in Kharkiv Region slowed down.
