Blogger Rustem Adagamov recalled the political background of Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin, who broke NHL legend Wayne Gretzky's long-standing record for the number of goals scored in the regular season throughout his career.
The blogger wrote about this on his page in X.
"Let me remind you that the American hockey player Alexander Ovechkin, who broke some kind of NHL record for throwing rubber pucks into the goal, is a Putin whore who was the organizer of the Putin Team movement," the blogger writes and adds a photo as proof.
The Russian scored his 895th goal in the regular season of the National Hockey League (NHL) on April 6 in an away game against the New York Islanders, breaking the previous record held by NHL legend Wayne Gretzky for 26 years.
It wasn't just blogger Adagamov who spoke out about repeating this record - legendary Czech hockey player Dominik Hasek also criticized him. On his page in X, he wrote :
"In the coming days, a Russian citizen who has never condemned the Russian imperialist war in Ukraine will break the record for the number of goals scored. Since this person has never officially condemned the Russian war and Russian crimes, he will have to live his whole life with the realization that because of his public speech in the war, a huge number of people were killed and maimed, including his fellow citizens."
Regarding this, he remarks: "Whether he's happy about it, indifferent to it, or regrets it, we don't know. But what we do know for sure is that the NHL not only allowed him to do it, but even supported him in doing so for those 3 years and 40 days!"
Therefore, Hasek writes, the NHL bears enormous responsibility for the hundreds of thousands (or perhaps millions) of people killed and injured during the Russian war in Ukraine:
"The NHL should pay for this. I would also like to point out that the countries in which this Russian citizen was allowed to play in NHL games are also responsible for the people killed and injured. That is, the USA and Canada."
According to him, Canada should also take responsibility: "After all, they also share this. The Czech Republic also bears a certain share of responsibility (4 NHL games in the last 3 years). It is wrong to look for excuses. Every country where an NHL game has been held in the last 3 years bears a certain share of responsibility."
"Any Russian citizen who does not condemn the Russian war cannot - should not - speak publicly. It costs human lives," Hasek concludes.
As Apostrophe previously wrote, former sports commentator and political figure Igor Miroshnychenko criticized hockey player Wayne Gretzky, who never condemned Russia's aggression against the country of his ancestors and supports the intention to turn Canada into the 51st state of the United States.
