On Monday, December 21, U.S. President-elect Joe Biden received his first dose of the Pfizer Inc COVID-19 vaccine on Monday at a hospital in Newark, Delaware, and he urged Americans to get the vaccine when it is available, as was reported by Reuters.
Mr. Biden joins a growing number of political leaders getting the jab, including Vice-President Mike Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Mr Biden's wife, Jill Biden, received her first dose earlier in the day, the president-elect said. Mr Biden's running mate, Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff are expected to receive their first shots next week.
A live broadcast has been made of the procedure in Delaware hospital as Biden wanted to show Americans “it is safe to take”.
"I'm doing this to demonstrate that people should be prepared when it's available to take the vaccine," Mr Biden said from Newark, Delaware, where he got the jab live on TV. "There's nothing to worry about." He also said that Trump administration "deserves some credit" for launching the country's vaccine program.
Reminding, that the Biden’s administration рфі set a goal of 100 million Covid-19 vaccinations in the US during the administration's first 100 days in the White House. During the pandemic, the US has recorded more than 18 million cases and 319,000 deaths.
As was reported earlier by the ‘Apostrophe’, a hospital north of Chicago has temporarily paused coronavirus vaccinations after four employees experienced adverse reactions to the Pfizer treatment. According to the approval of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as local health officials, Condell Medical Center in Libertyville would restart vaccinations for other employees beginning Sunday.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the President of the state Volodymyr Zelensky recognized that Ukraine's position in the world and Europe in terms of the priority of countries has been lost and therefore, Ukraine is not on the list of countries that receive the vaccine first.
