Maidan in Georgia: security forces used water cannons and tear gas against protesters. Photos and video

In Georgia, where people are protesting against the pro-Russian foreign agent bill, police have made several attempts to disperse the protesters. Tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets were used against people.

This was reported by Echo of the Caucasus.

The President of Georgia Salomé Zourabichvili called on the Minister of Internal Affairs to stop dispersing the peaceful demonstration.

"The Georgian people cannot and will not remain silent! In Tbilisi, the use of force against peaceful protesters continues to be completely unjustified, unprovoked and disproportionate. Full responsibility lies entirely with the government. The Georgian people are deprived of the right to a peaceful protest,'' she wrote on the X network.

The protesters are accused of allegedly "going beyond the law, and the protesters did not comply with the demands of law enforcement officers."

It is reported that as of 05:00, the riot police officers retreated, and people returned to the Georgian parliament building and continued the protest.

Currently, the protest is on hold, and today the pro-Russian forces in the parliament will return to considering the bill at 12.00 .

As a reminder, on April 30, the second reading of the controversial draft law on 'foreign influence' began in the Georgian parliament. In total, it will have to pass three readings, with the last one scheduled for May 17.

The country's president has promised to veto the document if it is passed in the third reading. However, the government has enough votes to override this presidential veto.
