A priest was arrested in St. Petersburg for a ten-year-old photo with a Ukrainian flag

Orthodox priest Mykola Savchenko has been arrested for 14 days in St. Petersburg, Russia, for posting a photo with the Ukrainian flag.

This was reported by the organization "Christians Against War" with reference to the words of the cleric himself, writes "Radio Liberty".

Previously, Savchenko was taken to the police from the church and later taken to court.

It is noted that the reason for the administrative case was a photo published on the Russian social network VKontakte in 2014. It shows Savchenko standing on the central Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg with a small Ukrainian flag.

The photo's caption includes a quote from the Bible: "Thus says the Lord: Do not go up and wage war against your brothers."

The flag Savchenko was holding was considered by the court to be a display of OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists) symbolism. In September 2022, the Supreme Court of Russia declared this organization extremist.

Earlier, "Apostrophe" reported that Ukrainian partisans raised the flag of Ukraine in occupied Makiivka .
