Large-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah may break out in upcoming weeks

If Jerusalem and Hamas fail to reach an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza, a large-scale war could break out between Israel and Hezbollah in the coming weeks. US intelligence believes that a major attack by either side could be the catalyst for the war.

This was reported by Politico.

Currently, US officials are trying to convince the parties to agree on de-escalation. The negotiations are tense and officials are not confident in a positive outcome. Two senior officials told the publication that according to US intelligence, the IDF and Hezbollah already have battle plans and are in the process of trying to procure additional weapons.

Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the risk of a major war is higher now than at any time in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, some European countries predict that a war between Israel and Hezbollah could break out in days. The authorities of European countries, Canada and the United States are advising their citizens to leave Lebanon.

US National Security Council Spokesperson Adrienne Watson said that the administration "continue efforts to secure a deal that would lead to a durable end to the war in Gaza."

"A cease-fire and hostage deal in Gaza will accelerate the possibility of progress, including lasting security and calm along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. That deal is now with Hamas. The decision is in Hamas’ hands," she said.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that his country "does not want war".

"The goal is to bring our citizens back home safely. We prefer to do it via understandings, but we are preparing for every possible scenario," the Minister said.

As reported by Apostrophe, Israel is preparing to launch a limited invasion of South Lebanon in order to push back any Hezbollah forces.
