Poland wants to produce gas in Ukraine: does the project have prospects?

In the near future, the Polish state company Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) plans to develop a gas field and start producing natural gas in Ukraine. And although the scale of the project if is yet to be discussed, the project has its prospects.

"I have big doubts that everything will be done fast. And, so far we are not talking about any gas production," Gennady Ryabtsev, head of special projects of the Psyche Scientific and Technical Center, told Apostrophe.

“However, even if the natural gas will be discovered in the field, it will take more than one year before it is possible to talk about significant volumes,” says Mikhaylo Gonchar, president of the Center for Global Studies "Strategy XXI".

At the same time, it should be noted that this project indeed has prospects.

According to Gennady Ryabtsev, Poles have long been assessing the Lviv-Volyn basin, as its geological conditions are very similar to those on the other side of our border.

"PGNiG knows the geology of this field well, so they have a good potential," agrees Andrian Prokip, an expert on energy programs of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future. "There are many opportunities”.
