Zelensky's advisor belief that there is a plan "B" in case there is no Western aid, but IMF Managing Director has a different opinion on this matter. According to her, Ukraine's economy will survive only a couple of months without US financial assistance.
She expressed her commitment to the Ukrainian authorities for revitalizing the economy, curbing inflation and strengthening Ukraine's tax base. However, she urged allies to unblock tens of billions of dollars in aid quickly or the economic recovery of the country will be jeopardized.
Kristalina Georgieva said this in an interview with The Financial Times.
The delay of financing for more than two months can cause destabilizing policy by Kyiv. For example, it could be additional money printing, as it was in the first months after the full-scale Russian invasion.
As a reminder, in 2024 Ukraine is counting on $41 billion in budget support from allies: $18 billion from the EU, $8.5 billion from the US, $5.4 billion from the IMF, $1.5 billion from other development banks and $1 billion from the UK.
Earlier we told you when the EU will make a final decision on the transfer of €50bn to Ukraine.
