Islands in Kyiv: How Kytayiv and Trukhaniv looked like in the 19th and 20th centuries

Interesting archival photos of Trukhaniv Island and Kytayivski Plavni in the 19th and 20th centuries were published online.

This was reported on the Facebook page "Club of Native Kyivan".

"1880s. View of Trukhaniv Island and the old Podil. The magnificent Dnipro River impresses with its width and majesty. Taken from the site where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently located," the post reads.

"Photo of the 1950s from my collection. The author is unknown. The shot was probably taken from St. Volodymyr's Hill. Spring flooding of the Dnipro River was a common thing at the time, and Trukhaniv Island is partially underwater. On the left, the route of the Petrivskyi railway bridge crosses the Dnipro and Desenka. Moskvich-type boats are running along the river. Their advertisement at the time read: "A boat trip during the spring flood is of particular interest," the author writes.
