Kristina Kvien appointed as new US Charge d’Affaires in Ukraine

After Ambassador William Taylor's departure from Kyiv on January 2, Kristina Kvien became the new charge d’affaires in Ukraine.

Kvien was born in Orange County, California, and has graduated from Occidental College. Before receiving an assignment in Ukraine, she served at the US Embassy in Paris from 2016 to April 2019 as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs.

Previously, she had already briefly served as the acting US Ambassador to Ukraine from May to June 2019. Prior to the current position, Kvien was a Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the United States in Ukraine.

“While the Embassy’s leadership is changing, our policy of strong support for Ukraine remains steady. Our embassy team will continue to partner closely with the Ukrainian government and civil society and support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and in support of reforms that will help Ukraine build its prosperous European future,” the ambassador said in a video statement.
