Russia refused to extradite to Ukraine fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych, who was sentenced in absentia to 13 years in prison for treason, Iryna Venedyktova, Prosecutor General of Ukraine said in an interview with Ukraine24 TV channel.
Commenting on the investigation of criminal proceedings against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, , Iryna Venedyktovasaid that Russia refused to extradite the ex-president, whose legal sentence (13 years of imprisonment) came into force in 2020.
The Prosecutor General added that the Ukraine plans to appeal to the Russian Federation again in this regard.
She also commented on the confiscation of $1.5 billion. According to Venediktova, Yanokovych’s money were alreadytransfered to the Ukrainian state treasury. In addition, she stated that there is an on-going trial regarding this case.
"In respect of this $1.5 billion. They were transferred into the state budget. We're currently having the court proceedings regarding this money... We're all worried, of course. But we'll watch how this case will be resolved in court. But it is a matter of fact that the money were transferred to the state budget," Venedyktova added.
