US "immigration" talks collapse can threat to aid for Ukraine

US Senate failed negotiations on immigration policy, which actually threatens to stop military aid to Ukraine and Israel.

NBC News informs about this.

Republicans have vowed to block Biden’s aid package unless Democrats agree to tighten U.S. asylum and parole laws in immigration proceedings. They've made "crystal clear" that "serious policy change" on the border are a condition for passing Ukraine aid.

Previously, talks between representatives of the two camps couldn't make a decidion. Democrats realize that Republicans are unwilling or unable to compromise on a reasonable proposal that can pass.

The Voice of America reports that Democrats demand a package vote for aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, along with strengthening the security of the US border with Mexico. At the same time, Republicans are calling for each bill to be considered separately.

"Congress has not been told whether Ukraine is in real danger right now. Yes, it may indeed be under threat months from now. And of course, the sooner we provide the aid flow - the better. And if the two bills get separated, that's fine, too. But I don't like the stubbornness of our administration in unwilling to guarantee the security of our own border. So this is our way of trying to get their attention," said New Jersey Republican Congressman Chris Smith.

Illinois Democratic Congressman Brad Schneider says the two bills are tied together with a single purpose - to protect the sovereignty and borders of both nations. "Just as Ukraine is fighting to protect its independence and sovereignt, it's in the United States' interest to make sure that Ukraine's border is secure and it's a successful democracy. It is also the United States' interest to make sure that we protect our own borders and our own democracy," he said.

At first it was the Republicans who demanded that the U.S. border security has been voted along with the aid for Ukraine, now the votes of this initiative are increasingly coming from both Republicans and Democrats in general. Representatives of both parties emphasize that the illegal crossing of the U.S. border with Mexico has become a real crisis and must be solved urgently.
