Republicans failed to vote for aid to Ukraine: migration agreement "buried"

Republicans refused to pass a bill that would strengthen US border policy and provide aid to Ukraine and Israel, as the US Senate Republican leadership said it failed to gather enough support.

This was reported by The Hill on Tuesday, February 6.

"It looks to me, and most of our members, we have no real chance here to make a law,"- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said during a press conference.

In addition, more than half of the Republicans in the upper chamber opposed the law, while several top Senate Republicans said they would block the chamber from beginning to consider the bill.

The publication noted that this can only indicate that the Republicans "quickly 'buried' the agreement reached after months of negotiations by senators from the Republican and Democratic parties, as well as a representative of independents.

The development made the Democrats so angry that they could not hide their disdain for their opponents, accusing them of manipulation. They emphasized that it was the Republicans who insisted on connecting border reform with aid to Ukraine back in October. Then the idea was supported by House Speaker Mike Johnson, but now he supports Trump's statements and declared the Senate border bill “dead on arrival” in the House.

At the same time, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, who represented his party in the negotiations, said that after such an act, Republicans cannot be trusted at all.

"They told us what to do. We followed their instructions to the letter and then they pulled the rug out from under us in 24 hours. Who are we supposed to work with over there? They are a negotiating nightmare." he stated.

US President Joe Biden also reacted to the Republicans' statements - he accused Trump of inciting the Republicans.

“All indications are this bill won’t even move forward to the Senate floor. Why? A simple reason: Donald Trump. Because Donald Trump thinks it’s bad for him politically,” - Biden said on Tuesday.

He also added that Trump seeks to use the problem for his own political purposes rather than actually solve it.

Earlier "Apostrophe" reported that U.S. Senate unveiled a proposal of $118 billion aid package for Israel, Ukraine and border security.
