U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called on President Joe Biden to lift restrictions on the use of U.S. weapons to destroy missile and artillery launchers located directly on the border with Russia.
This was reported by the New York Times.
According to the newspaper, Blinken's proposal, which he made after his visit to Kyiv last week, is still in the formative stages. It is noted that it is unclear how many of his colleagues from Biden's inner circle have signed on to it. The document has not yet been officially presented to the president.
A State Department Spokesperson reportedly refused to comment on internal deliberations over Ukraine policy, including Blinken's report after he returned from Kyiv, but officials involved in the deliberations noted that Blinken's position had changed as the Russians launched a new offensive.
The publication recalls that the UK has lifted its own restrictions so that its Storm Shadow cruise missile systems can be used to target Russia more broadly. In addition, the United States is also currently considering sending its military to Ukraine for training, which the US President had previously banned.
Earlier, we reported that David Cameron said - Ukraine can use the weapons provided by London to strike at Russian territory.
