The inauguration scandal: Zelensky’s explanation and new decision of the Ukrainian Rada

Volodimir Zelensky’s representatives insist on holding the newly elected president’s inauguration on May 19, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, which was announced by Zelensky’s advisor Dmitry Razumkov on ICTV.

He stressed that inauguration needs to happen on Sunday, May 19, in order to avoid a transportation collapse in the capital.

“Any events with many foreign guests arriving mean restrictions on movement in Kyiv. If we’re talking about the inauguration day, it’s basically a complete transportation collapse in the central part of the city – everything’s going to be blocked. In order to minimize this effect, Volodimir Zelensky suggests holding the inauguration on the first weekend day, which is May 19,” Razumkov states.

He also notes that the Parliament has already had a chance to vote for the inauguration date, yet they did not take it. Razumkov believes that MPs are afraid of the potential dissolution of the Parliament, therefore delaying voting for according bills.

At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada decided to consider all five bills regarding the inauguration date. Three bills suggest holding Zelensky’s inauguration on May 19, while another two – on May 21 and May 26 accordingly.

As “Apostrophe” reported earlier, if the Parliament is unable to determine the inauguration day, it will be done by its chairman.
