Ecosystem of new ideas: main theses from the report of the co-chairman of the Club of Rome in Kyiv

The civilization of new people can only appear where freedom will be valued, and it should not be "freedom" to become a billionaire at the expense of others.

This was stated by the co-chairman of the Club of Rome Ernst Ulrich von Weizsacker during a meeting at the CEO Club Ukraine in partnership with the Ukrainian Association of the Club of Rome and the Business 100 project.

"There are events and people you are looking forward to. It is like an invisible facet, after which you will not be the same as before. They are able to change you, your values, give you an opportunity to understand the world you live in - who we are, where we go and what will happen in the future", - says the founder and president of Club Ukraine Sergey Gaidaychuk.

"We are especially attentive to such valuesat Ceo Club Ukraine. CEO Club Ukraine is our territory of trust, an ecosystem in which we try to produce new ideas for the country, for the world. We have teamed up to implement particularly significant projects and we believe that in such trust territories should stand a new country, "- continued the president of the CEO Club Ukraine.

Ceo Club Ukraine

According to him, the Club of Rome is a union, a territory of trust of 100 intellectuals from more than 30 countries who see themselves as defenders of democracy, long-term planning, environment and future generations, who do not have a voice in the capitalist debates. The mission of the club is to identify contemporary challenges for humanity, to engage the world community and to propose long-term solutions based on thorough scientific analysis.

The report "Limits of growth", which was published 30 years ago in 12 million copies, shocked the elites around the world. The anniversary report for the 50th anniversary of the Club of Rome "Come On!" offers not only a detailed analysis of what humanity has done, but also a clear program on the mistakes to save our planet.

Some theses from the report of Professor Ernst Ulrich von Weizsacker in Kyiv:

  • An obvious figure that illustrates the era of human domination is the calculation of the ratio of the total mass of human beings and farm animals: it is 97% of the mass of bodies of all vertebrates of the Earth! That is, elephants, kangaroos, bats, rats, birds, reptiles and amphibians together weigh no more than 3%.
  • 2018 was the first year in the world - from Australia to Sweden, everywhere - when there was a major change in natural climate conditions. And now the data is 2019: in India in June, 250,000,000 people did not have access to clean drinking water. They got it from the Himalayas. Floods in Africa, the Bahamas and Australia. Major fires - in America, Canada, Siberia, even in Alaska. There were 28 huge fires in Sweden in 2018.
  • However, the main threat is not even the fires, but the oceans, which will overflow from the coast. Ocean-level rise can occur instantly. Can you imagine that?
  • So-called modern industrial methods of agricultural production that use chemistry are the worst enemy of biodiversity that reigns in nature and is a big enemy for the climate. Emissions of methane, nitrogen, and soil degradation lead to the destruction of entire populations of birds and insects.
  • Ukraine is a wonderful country for agriculture. If you only change the approach to organic agriculture, and such technologies already exist, then you will leave room for entire chains of ecosystems. This is a great idea for a startup.
  • My favorite proposal for green taxes is to increase taxes on CO2 emissions and the development of free resources each year, and this scheme will make the green economy and technologies that help to reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
  • We need to understand our priorities. Why we live and what we want from this life.
  • The civilization of new people must appear where freedom will be valued, but it will certainly not be the freedom to be a billionaire at the expense of others.
  • Modern economists are told that the more competition, the better for the world. No. It is not quite so. Lots of competition will destroy the world.
  • The new paradigm will be more complicated. And it may take more than a hundred years to develop it.
