Former President of France died of COVID-19 complications

Former French President Valerie Giscard d'Estaing has died of COVID-19 complications at the age of 94, as was reported by AFP.

According to the agency, on November 15, d'Estaing was hospitalized; he returned home after receiving treatment, he returned home. The politician died surrounded by his family at his estate in central France.

Notably, Giscard d'Estaing served as the President of France in 1974-1981. He participated in the liberation of Paris during World War II and served as a minister in the government of General Charles de Gaulle. After winning the election at the age of 48, he became one of the youngest leaders in Europe.

His presidency signified the abolition of political censorship in French cinematography, the simplification of divorce proceedings, and the legalization of abortions.
