The UN Secretary-General made an alarming statement on COVID-19 mortality

Due to the insufficient number of vaccines and new mutation of coronavirus, United Nations Secretary-General (UN) António Guterres predicts an increase in mortality from COVID-19.

The UN Secretary-General expressed an akin opinion at the virtual economic forum in Davos.

In particular, Guterres stressed that novel strains of coronavirus are becoming more contagious and deadly.

There is a real threat of mutations of the virus into more contagious and more deadly strains that may be resistant to the existing vaccines,” he said.

Therefore, the UN Secretary-General called for increased production of coronavirus vaccines and ensuring their universal availability.

"Vaccines are rapidly emerging in the high-income countries, while poor countries lack them. If developed countries think that they will be safe as long as they vaccinate their citizens, neglecting the rest of the world, they are wrong," Guterres said.
