Ukraine accused Russian hackers of a new cyber attack

Ukraine’s State Security Service (SBU) said on Tuesday it had prevented a large-scale cyber attack by Russian hackers targeting classified government data.

The corresponding report was published by the press service of the SBU.

The SBU said the aim was to “get access to classified data of the highest institutions of state power of Ukraine” and accused the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) of being behind the hackers who allegedly had carried the attack. The SBU did not say whether any damage had been caused in the latest incident.

Ukrainian security forces managed to neutralize the consequences and eliminate the prerequisites for potential unauthorized access of Russian special services to the state information resources.

"Now they are taking all necessary measures to record numerous cyber attacks by foreign special services. Law enforcement officers are investigating cyber incidents to identify all involved persons and bring them to justice,"the SBU noted.

Reminding, that in February, Ukrainian cyber authorities accused unnamed Russian internet networks of attacks on Ukrainian security and defence websites, and of trying to disseminate malicious documents through a web-based system. Kyiv has previously accused Moscow of orchestrating large cyber attacks as part of a “hybrid war” against Ukraine, but Russia denies the accusations. The FSB did not immediately comment on the latest accusation.
