Ukrainian scientists estimated when Ukraine will reach the collective immunity against COVID-19

Ukraine may not manage to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022 and will reach the collective immunity stage only by 2023.

According to the report published by the press-service of the National Technical University of Ukraine Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Ukraine will not be able to overcome the pandemic by 2022 due to the shortages of vaccines against COVID-19.

Ukrainian scientists believe that mass vaccination of the population is the decisive mean of overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Given Ukrainian current vaccination rates, Ukraine risks not to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022 and will only reah collective immunityby 2023," the message reads.

Unfortunately, Ukraine is classified as a country with a high risk of a prolonged formation of collective immunity due to vaccine shortages and extremely low vaccination rates. As of May 1, 2021, only 1.8% of the Ukrainian population was vaccinated with the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In order to accelerate the process of formation of collective immunity, scientists recommend all anti-epidemic measures to be upheld by the citizens.
