Russia has started to equip UAVs Shahed-136 type with a new thermobaric warhead. Its explosion produces a powerful shock wave that affects all human organs.
This was unveiled by communications, PEP, and EW specialist, Sergey Beskrestnov.
"Almost 40 kg of thermobaric charge with three explosives. To give you an idea, this charge can hit a large area of power substation or warehouses. We can say for sure that this is equivalent to "Sontsepek" and "Buratino" charge," he noted.
As Defence express explains, the thermobaric munition is effective in enclosed spaces, including residential buildings because of the excessive pressure at the shock wave front. When a single-stroke of the thermobaric munition is detonated, it produces a shock wave, following which the elements of the thermobaric mixture mobilize. This mixture interacts both with the ambient air and its own components, thereby producing a “cloud”. This “cloud” has a staggering temperature ranging from 2400 to 2600 °C and it “lasts” approximately one second.
This "cloud", is different from the shock wave from a high-explosive device, "spreading" fills in the entire space. That's why it is impossible to hide from it around a corner. In addition to the super-high temperature, the explosion produces a powerful shock wave that affects the lungs, auditory system, etc. It is still unknown whether this warehead was a single-action or not.
